Fifth-Year Resident
Philip Forno, M.D. earned his undergraduate degree at the University
of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona, where he studied ecology and evolutionary
biology, the classics, and creative writing. His undergraduate research
interests included animal behavior and synaptic plasticity at the
neuromuscular junction. During his undergraduate career he became
a certified rock-climbing guide, published poet, and an adjunct
science teacher at the elementary and high school level. He was
awarded membership to Phi Beta Kappa, and graduated summa cum laude
in 1998.
Attending on a full scholarship, Dr. Forno earned a doctor of medicine
at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts.
During medical school he studied ulnar shortening in luno-triquetral
tears, developing an interest in Orthopaedic Surgery. He joined
the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery’s residency program
at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in July 2003.
Dr. Forno’s interests include rock and ice climbing, mountain
biking, and creative literature.
